After many miles of travel, you find yourself inside a dark tunnel. You come to an intersection. You look left, nothing. You look forward, nothing. To the right, you see a cloaked figure standing next to a marble pedestal with nothing on it. You cautiously approach the menacing being. You come within arms-reach of the pedestal when the shadowy figure speaks from the depths of its inky black cowl.
“My name is Barneemicus the grey. You may not enter my inner sanctum until you have proven yourself worthy.”
It is at this time that you notice a doorway behind the wizard, barred fast with iron bars. The barricade does little to obscure the mountainous piles of jewels and treasure within the sanctum. You also notice many Apple products scattered among the filthy lucre. You inquire what you must do to pass.
“Behold the Macbook on the pedestal.” The wizard says.
You look to the pedestal as a puff of smoke wafts away to reveal a glimmering notebook. Incredible.
“You must create a MySQL database and employ Java Database Connectivity to store and retrieve information regarding the quantity and characteristics of my treasure trove. I don’t want people hacking into this system, so be sure to use prepared statements. They’re much safer. I want a working .java file, a class diagram, and a sequence diagram. Put them on this thumb drive when you’re done.” To your horror, the wizard then removes his thumb and inserts it into the Macbook. You employ all of your will-power to keep your cheese-based lunch within you.
You agree to undertake the challenge, thankful that your cape grants a +5 bonus to object oriented programming. You take a deep breath and press the power button to begin. The computer does not respond. You glance at the wizard for help.
“Oh, woops.” The wizard mumbles as he waves his hand at the laptop.
An AC adapter materializes and tethers the computer to the newly appeared outlet in the wall. The computer lights up with an unworldly glow. You have absolutely no idea what the wizard is talking about. MySQL? JDBC? You will not let trivial matters stand in your way. You must reach the inner sanctum…
